One can take a bus or a private taxi to Pahalgam or Baltal after leaving the airport in Srinagar. About 70 kilometres separate Pahalgam from Srinagar. The 45-kilometer trip to the Amarnath cave begins in Pahalgam, from whence pilgrims can make overnight stops at Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni. The route takes about 4 days. Amarnath is only 6 kilometres away from Panchtarni. Even a helicopter service is available from Baltal, close to Pahalgam, to the revered Amarnath.
